Prof. Zina Makar on Money Bail in today’s New York Times

Zina Makar, the fellow in the UB Pretrial Justice Clinic, has an op-ed in today’s New York Times:  http://www.nytimes.com/2016/11/17/opinion/bail-reform-begins-with-the-bench.html

In the op-ed, Zina argues compellingly that “judges must stop relying solely on police arrest reports in making bail determinations.”  The timing of Zina’s publication could not be more perfect, as today is the conference organized by Zina and Colin Starger on Money Bail and its Role in Mass Incarceration.  If you haven’t already dropped in on the conference, a panel on solutions starts at 1:15.  Our appreciation to Zina for sharing her insights with the wide readership of the NY Times and for the tireless work she and her students are doing in Baltimore.
