Bob Parsons Veterans Advocacy Clinic Event Focuses on Improving Discharge Review Process

The Bob Parsons Veterans Advocacy Clinic hosted a veterans day event titled “Representing Servicemembers in Discharge Upgrades,” co-sponsored by Homeless Persons Representation Project, University of Baltimore School of Law Military Law Association, University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law Military Law Association, and the Pro Bono Resource Center of Maryland on November 4, 2016.

The speakers included (from left to right in photo) Professor Hugh McClean (Baltimore law), James Richardson (former advisor to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces), Professor Jason Manne (U. of Pittsburgh law), Robert Powers (President of the Navy Discharge Review Board), and Professor Aniela Szymanski (William and Mary law).

Panelists spoke about the need for more transparency in the discharge review process, as well as best-practices for practitioners representing veterans before the Discharge Review Boards and Boards for Correction of Military Records.
